Frequently Asked Questions

Is Polyaspartic Floor Coating Better Than Epoxy?

Polyaspartic floor coatings are more durable and less likely to chip or peel than an epoxy coating. They’re also more UV resistant and are better for interior installations since they emit low fumes. Polyaspartic floor coatings are a newer type of coating that has been gaining in popularity in recent years. They are more durable and less likely to chip or peel than epoxy flooring, making them a better choice for floors that need to stand up to heavy traffic.

How Long Does a Polyaspartic Floor Coating Last?

Polyaspartic floor coatings are systems that provide long-term beauty and protection for surfaces subjected to high traffic and use. When applied by expert certified contractors, like RW Custom Coatings, a polyaspartic floor coating will last 10+ years before needing any type of touch up or re-coating.

We offer a 1-year warranty for industrial applications and lifetime guarantees for residential work.

That said, although the initial investment may be higher than some traditional flooring options, you’ll be saving money in the long run by not having to regularly replace your floors. Not to mention, you’ll also have a floor that looks amazing and is easy to clean!

How Long Does It Take to Coat and Set Polyaspartic Floors?

Polyaspartic coatings are one of the quickest drying floor coatings on the market. Depending on temperature, moisture levels and humidity, it could take as little as 2 hours for a complete cure. However, we recommend that you wait a full 24 hours being replacing your lighter items and furniture on the cured floor, and a full 48 before you drive on it.

Is Polyaspartic Coating Toxic?

No, polyaspartic coatings are not toxic. These coatings provide extremely low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions and thereby exhibit very low fumes. This makes them a great choice for many residential and commercial applications where air quality is a concern. Despite the non-toxicity we still recommend proper ventilation during the installation and drying process.

What Is Your Warranty Plan Like?

While polyaspartic floor coatings are often seen as a better option than epoxy floor coatings because they are more durable and have a longer lifespan, you will receive a warranty.

For residential projects (e.g., garage floors), you’ll receive a non-transferable lifetime warranty. For industrial applications with a need for abrasion resistance (including those with forklifts, dragging forks, pallets etc.), you’ll receive a 1-year warranty.

Can I Apply Polyaspartic Coating Myself?

You can apply your own polyaspartic coating to your concrete floor yourself, but we do not recommend it. There are a variety of factors that can shorten the lifespan of a polyaspartic floor coating — typically things that are associated with the installation process. Improperly preparation of the surface before applying the polyaspartic coating can cause the coating to not adhere correctly and eventually peel off.

Polyaspartic floor coatings need time to cure properly between each coat. Applying additional coats before the previous ones have had a chance to cure can cause adhesion issues and eventual peeling. Our process involves intensive surface preparation. Our application process utilizes multi-person crews. Each person diligently oversees each aspect of the installation.
